I see a TON of clapped out cars around here. Most of them are barely running. Not really rusty, since it doesn't snow that much here in Kentucky. But I have seen some sad, sad automobiles. What's the most common beat up car in your area? There are three models that immediately come to mind for me.
1. Pre-2008 Ford Taurus: The 2008 and newer Tauruses are mostly old people cars, so they tend to be well cared for. But the rental-car spec older models? Often seen nearly dragging the ground with trunks full of garbage and three or more dirty kids fighting in the backseat.
2. J-Body (Chevrolet Cavalier/Pontiac Sunfire): It used to be the L-Body (Chevrolet Beretta/Corsica), but most of those have gone to the junkyard long before now. These days, I see plenty of dented and scraped Js. Some are so poorly maintained that they clatter like diesels.
3. Dodge/Plymouth Neon: I think this one is obvious. These are like cockroaches. They'll be around long after the apocalypse. My friend owned one from age 16 to age 21. She changed the oil once during that time. And it still runs to this day.

Ex police duty Crown Vics. People buy them for the cost of a big mac and then they run them into the ground in a matter of hours. I wish I knew what the hell they were doing with them because in no time they've got paint peeling and rust, headliner falling down, 3 different wheels with all flat tires, broken headlights and a hood that doesn't close all the way.

Agreed, I also don't remember ever seeing a Dodge Intrepid in good shape either. Or an Eagle anything.

A neighbor (supposedly a lawyer, and in his 60's) owns not one but TWO POS rusty clapped out Cadillac Cimarrons. They are his only cars.

It's mostly Cavs and Intrepids here in Indy. There are also a LOT of POS Panthers (mostly ex-police Vics, a few GrMs.

Grand Prix, or any W-Body really. Most are owned by teenagers who are clueless and wreckless.
Camry. Idiot owners who give literally zero fucks about their car.
Early 2000s Chrysler minivans. Most on their second (or third) set of abusive owners and their dirty kids.

Asides from neons and panthers, San Antonio had a metric crapload of v6 mustangs, all sn-95 and new edge, all beat to shit. Seriously, you couldn't drive to the gas station without passing 2 or three limping along with exhaust manifold gasket leaks and peeling paint

Here in Manhattan it's E250s and E350s - huge locks on the back to prevent breakins, faded signage, battered bodies, failing exhaust systems. Of course the worst cases are the Crown Vic taxis that have been on the road far too long. You get in the back, and if the seat is collapsed you know you're going to be feeling the back end moving around because the rear suspension is shot as well. But the worst taxi is that thing above, the Transit Connect. The suspensions are always collapsed, the seat is as well. Interestingly, Prius and Camry Hybrids take a beating yet still ride OK, but the best by far (and I always smile when one picks me up) is the new Highlander Hybrid. Great ride, comfy seats, and plenty of legroom.

Fuckin' 80s Monte Carlo SSs. Like every 4th house in my neighborhood has one in varying states of disrepair.

Here it seems to be old Tercels and Intrepids, more Neons, J-Bodys and Tauruses (Tauri?) seem to be in better condition.

Ford Crown Vics, Chevrolet Impalas, and Dodge Dakotas.
Crown Vics because ex-police cars.
Impalas for the same reason, and people that just don't take care of them.
Dakotas because, like I've mentioned before, I rarely see a Dakota that isn't covered in rust and/or peeling clearcoat these days.

I did like six taxi rides this past weekend in NYC. Three being newer Camry Hybrid's, one being a previous generation Camry Hybrid, one as a previous gen Escape Hybrid with 394K, and one being a Transit Connect.
The Transit Connect has god awful. I'm pretty sure it wasn't that old, but the interior was atrocious.
The Escape's are fine - if not a little too small.
I'm impressed with the Camry's - they were spacious and rode well.

Don;t you dare say anything bad about my hooptie!! My hooptie is awesome. J body life!

I didn't mean to say anything bad about the J-Body, really. They are definitely long-lasting cars. And super simple to work on. I just see most of them around here in quite used and abused conditions.

Haha I am just being sarcastic. Lasting a long time is just about their only feature.

The amount of rust on first gen Mazda 3's it incredible.

Also I should add, I've taken *pretty* good care of mine (all fluids regularly changed) and it still sounds a bit like a deisel. Not sure why. Oil is in perfect shape.

Sorry if I'm being pedantic (promise I'm not trying to be!), but I think you meant reckless. wreckless has the opposite meaning lol.

That Caravan is just begging to be a project car. If I had the money and the means to bring it to the States, I'd do it.

They don't go for all that much, even good ones.
